Hotel with a difference

The Hotel d'Angleterre in Geneva offers sumptuous surroundings in one of the oldest hotels in the city

The Hotel d'Angleterre is a five star boutique hotel in Geneva with stunning views over Lac Leman and the surrounding French Alps. Centrally located, so within walking distance to all of Geneva's main attractions, it is one of many luxurious and beautiful hotels to be found within the city.

So what makes it different to its competitors? Both its history and service. The hotel was built in 1872 by famous architect Anthony Krafft and is listed as one of the historic sites of the city of Geneva. It began as a 30 room hotel with its main entrance on the Quai du Mont Blanc for easy access by foot, horse or carriage. The entrance was flanked by two magnificent neo-classical columns with bright and spacious terraces inside to give the best view overlooking the lake. It was a hit from the start, with its excellent location, discrete luxury and limited number of rooms which made it a unique and exclusive address in Geneva.

In 1910 the hotel was extended and an additional wing was built and at this time the entrance was moved to the Rue de Monthoux. In 1995 the hotel closed its doors for 12 months to undergo a complete refurbishment which left only the listed facade, internal staircase and floors preserved. The project was one of the most important in the local history of the city and was supervised by the Archaeological Sites Commission of Geneva.

The hotel works to its motto 'no request is too large, no detail too small' and prides itself on its service to its guests (which have included Lord Baden Power, Malistair McLean, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson and Michail Gorbatchev). Whilst the hotel has encountered numerous changes throughout its time, the exceptional hospitality from its staff members has continuously placed it as one of the highest ranked hotels in Geneva and number on on Tripadvisor.

Exquisite art and design is found throughout the hotel, with original works of art in each room and public areas, and also in the artistic and savoury cuisine of the Windows Restaurant. The restaurant is a great favourite in the city because of its stunning food but also for its sunset views over the Lake. Another great tradition is afternoon tea served in the Observatory, and you can finish off the evening with a cocktail and dance in the Leopard Bar which is accompanied by live music from Mondays to Saturdays. The hotel has also recently unveiled a special cigar lounge which boasts floor to ceiling wooden panelling, stone fireplace, mirrored walls and luxurious armchairs. Stylish furnishing and original artwork complete the rich ambience and a world-class cigar and beverage menu is designed to impress its guests. It also has a special innovative air-flow extractions system to ensure you can relax in comfort!

But the hotel is also very family friendly and offers a number of services such as adjoining rooms and suites, child sized bathrobes, selection of games and toys, a children's menu at the Windows Restaurant and Wii console and games available on request. Plus they also welcome four legged friends with a special 'pet concierge' service which includes special walks along the waterfront of Lake Geneva and 'elegant pet friendly accommodation'.

The hotel is only a ten minute walk from Geneva train station, but it can organise transfers by private limousine if you'd prefer. This beautiful hotel is also the winner of many awards, including being in the top 10 of the Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Award in 2016.

The Hotel d'Angleterre is one of the Leading Hotels of the World.
